Australian imports by states for 2012 to 2013

Australia imported $319.4bn worth of goods and services in 2012/13 and the lion’s share was claimed by NSW with 34.3% (or $109.4bn), according to up-to-date data from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).
Victoria accounted for 23.2% (or $74.1bn), Queensland for 16.2% (or $51.6bn), Western Australia for 13.6% (or $43.6bn),
South Australia for 2.9% (or $9.4bn), the Northern Territory for 1.8% (or $5.7bn).
Tasmania and the ACT accounted for 0.3% and 0.5% respectively.
Re-imports and confidential items accounted for the remaining 7.2%.
Meanwhile, a variety of trends in respect of Australia’s top 20 goods imports, which are typically carried as containerised cargo, are worthy of note.
DFAT’s current “Australia’s Trade by State and Territory 2012/13” report reveals that NSW imports of pharmaceutical products (excluding medicaments) – among Australia’s top 20 goods imported by value – were up 20.3% to $1.6bn.
Conversely, NSW’s imports of monitors, projectors & TVs decreased 14% to $1.18bn.
Victoria’s imports of ‘other textile clothing’ were up 10.7% to $881m, while imports of medicaments (including veterinary) fell 20.2% to $917m.
Queensland’s imports of pumps (excluding liquid pumps) and parts – a major containerised commodity – were up 180.3% to $1.13bn.
And imports of heating and cooling equipment and parts increased 71.8% to $543m, while furniture, mattresses and cushions decreased 0.6% to $496m.
South Australia’s imports of electrical circuit equipment increased 34.9% to $85m, whereas imports of measuring and analysing instruments decreased 43.4% to $112m.
Western Australia’s imports of pumps (excluding liquid pumps) and parts were 160.5% to $581m, while imports of specialised machinery & parts fell 6.4% to $566m.
Tasmania’s imports of non-electrical machinery & parts increased 61.5% to $21m, while imports of rubber tyres, treads and tubes fell 8.3% to $22m.
Northern Territory’s imports of electrical circuit equipment increased 42.9% to $10m, while imports of specialised machinery & parts decreased 61.5% to $15m.
