Value of Australian Imports fell 5%

February 2014 – Australian imports reflected a massive $20.51 billion worth of international goods this February. However, this is 5% lower than January’s $21.61 billion as reported by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).
Australia’s goods with declined imports this February
Below is a breakdown of Australia’s goods with declined imports.
- Furniture, which includes bedding, fell from $323 million to $234 million
- Office machines and automatic data processors fell from $799 million to $644 million
- Telecom equipment and parts fell from $809 million to $667 million
- Apparel and accessories fell from $765 million to $699 million
- Footwear fell from $180 million to $153 million
- Textiles and fabrics fell from $268 million to $240 million
- Household electrical equipment from $983 million to $818 million
- Medicinal and pharmaceutical products from $789 million to $938 million
Are there any good news?
It is not all bad in the import sector as seasonally adjusted terms in good debits increased by 1% from $321 million to $22.98 billion between January and February. Pulp and waste paper imports was also stable at $20 million.
