Australian customs procedures considered one of the best in the world
« Previous | Next »
“Globally and from an international perspective, Australian customs procedures is often used as one of the best examples of modern procedures.”
This is how Susanne Aigner, World Customs Organisation (WCO) Deputy Director for Compliance and Facilitation in Brussels, described Australian customs in the Customs Brokers and Forwarders Council of Australia (CBFCA) national conference held in Victoria.
Below are excerpts of what was included in her speech:
Co-operation – key factor to excellence within Australian customs
The co-operation between Australian customs and transport agencies are closer compared to other WCO members. This is one of the most important factors that puts Australia on top of customs procedures.
Modern customs procedures should be based on partnerships between government agencies. This should include all agencies, even those with different perspectives.
Australian customs addressing security aviation threat
WCO’s member states are having more alerts to increased security threats while enduring reduced resources. This problem was initially seen in the maritime sector, however, aviation is now also affected.
Everyone should not only be reactive, but also proactive, especially in identifying issues. She believes the objectives of so doing is the same as that of trade objectives. Therefore, a clear and precise standard must be initiated to ensure fair trade.
